President - Overview of Position

The President is responsible for maintaining compliance with Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) directives and standards; ensuring PSC is held in good standing with the Chapter President’s Council (CPC).  The role of the President oversees and manages the general operation of the GBTA Puget Sound Chapter (PSC)

The President is responsible for the guidance and administration of all activities of the chapter, in accordance with the bylaws of PSC.  Such activities shall include the development of policies, chapter objectives, strategic initiatives and executive decisions on events.  

The President is to chair all board and general meetings.  Chair board and general meetings. Help set direction and solve problems. Directs all committee members and appoints ad hoc committees as needed. Responsible for monitoring overall ethics of organization.  Must be current member of the Board of Directors to be eligible to run for this position.  

The Chapter President position requires a minimum of 12 hours per month

Roles & Responsibilities

The below are the expectations of the duties for the Chapter President 

  • Preside over all chapter meetings, including but not limited to Board Meetings, Monthly Meetings, Socials and Special Events. 

  • Oversee all general business of PSC to ensure all GBTA and CPC guidelines are followed

  • Review and approve all Chapter related expenses

  • Work with the Executive Board and Committee Chairpersons to ensure all duties and responsibilities are performed timely and accurately

  • Participates in CPC events, programs, and committees to maintain Chapter compliance with CPC standards and guidelines ensuring Chapter member access to scholarship opportunities, committees, or the Business Travel Professional Service Award

  • Attend Global Business Travel Association annual convention on behalf of the Chapter (if the President’s employer is paying for at least half of the associated expenses, President should split activities between employer and CPC appropriately based upon the amount of employer contribution)

  • Maintain a record of all Chapter materials and collateral for successive Chapter administrations

  • Work in tandem with the PSC Administrator (paid position of the Chief of Staff) on the execution of all strategic initiatives and action items. 

  • Serve as an example and mentor for all members related to ethical code of conduct and ethics

  • Partner with Chapter Treasure to oversee bi-annual audit of the financial records of the Chapter by a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) within 60 days of the close of the Chapter’s fiscal year and assign responsibility for an independent audit of the Treasurer's records at year-end 

    • For oversight and visibility purposes, President shall obtain all financial signatory ability and any financial system login information.  In addition to the Treasurer the President shall appoint another member of the Board of Directors to have access for visibility purposes.

  • Confirm appointments of committee Chairpersons

  • Serve on a minimum of one Committee

  • Assign duties to other Officers and Committee Chairs as required.

  • At the end of the term, review achievements against objectives, and prepare a list of recommendations to be provided to the incoming President and serve in a one-year position as President Emeritus.

  • Other duties as customary to the office of President of the Board of Directors for a professional organization.

    • Develop PSC specific goals and objectives to promote growth of the chapter.

    • Delegate tasks to specific Executive Board members or Committee Chairpersons

    • Collaborate with Executive Board to develop annual budget which is then reviewed by Committee Chairpersons. 

  • President has final vetoing authority on all chapter decisions including, but not limited to budget funding, scholarship administration, meeting and event contracts. 

    • Any bylaw decisions must be made in accordance with GBTA’s legislative committee, policies and guidelines.

GBTA Puget Sound Chapter Job Description

The President position is a 2 year term and is required to be an active All Access member of GBTA.  As part of the position requirements, the President must attend a minimum of two CPC meetings annually.

All presidents must be employed in a business travel related position and can be either an allied or direct member. 

Minimum Critical Competencies and Qualifications for GBTA Puget Sound President

  •  Member in good standing of GBTA Puget Sound (hereafter referred to as Chapter) 

  • Employed in a travel-related service industry or in a position that procures travel services for employees of an organization as outlined in the GBTA Puget Sound Bylaws 

  • Attend at least 85% of all Board functions, and 75% of all association meetings

  • Individual must have served on an executive board position for a minimum of two years.  This position can be within the PSC or another GBTA Chapter

  • All presidents must be employed in a business travel related position and can be either an allied or direct member. 

President – Optional Misc. Tasks:

Below are suggested miscellaneous tasks recommended to the President as they and the Executive Board feel appropriate:

  • Prepare a monthly message to all members and prospective members.  This can go out in the form of a newsletter or posted on the PSC website. 

  • Actively participate in the planning and provide strategic direction of all special events including Education Day and the Gala

  • Ensure all areas of the website are updated
