President's Report

As summer quickly approaches, and folks head out for vacations, I wanted to wish you safe travels. We’ve had a great year so far, with great attendance at our meetings, well received speakers and an amazing Gala.

As you know, we usually have Gala towards the end of the year, but thought, what the heck, and threw a party in May. Our beneficiary was Ronald McDonald House, and through your very generous hearts, and a few bottles of wine, we will write a check for $25,000, to help further their mission to help house families that are dealing with seriously ill children.

I look forward to seeing you for our Summer Social in July, and at GBTA (have you applied for a scholarship yet), and throughout the rest of the year.

PSBTA Legislative Summit report

Pete with Senator Merkley

Pete with Shane Downey - GBTA VP for Gov. Relations

Pete Crow represented PSBTA at GBTA’s May Legislative Summit in Washington, DC. This annual event attended by over 100 travel industry members both educates GBTA membership on the issues (day 1) as well as connects attendees with elected officials from their States for business travel lobbying (day 2). Pete was joined on lobby day by Portland, OR OBTA member Manley Norris. Together, they visited Senator Jeff Merkley (OR), Senator Ron Wyden’s office (OR), Senator Patty Murray’s office (WA), Congressman Adam Smith’s office (WA) and Congressman Earl Blumenauer (OR). The top issues of the day were the FASTER Act (keeping airline ticket security fees for airport safety and not re-directed to other projects), JOLT Act (enhancing and renaming the visa waiver program (VWP), which would spur visits to the USA, and asking representatives to support an airport ground transport working group to address landside access and congestion.

GBTA is running a push for people to send emails to their Senators and Representatives to co-sponsor the FASTER Act. As such, it is requested that each member send a pre-written emailed letter to their representatives. This is simple and easy to do and shouldn’t take longer than a minute or two complete. You can find the information for the email campaign HERE.
